Health is very important but sometimes it’s hard to get good information. With the rise of social media, there are a lot of “Alternate facts” out there and sometimes it is difficult to figure out what is true or false, fact or fiction or just plain lies. Having just graduated and known the importance of evidence-based practice I decided to do something about it. I like to consider Rooks Health a movement/project dedicated to providing good health information against the myths and misconceptions surrounding health and wellness.
Starting all of this wasn’t and still isn’t particularly easy as it proved to be a time-consuming process where personal time is sacrificed. But being a young physiotherapist, thirsty to learn and work allowed me to overcome the obstacles. I take a lot of pride in all this because I really enjoyed the process and learned a whole new set of skills that I never would have known before. For example, creating the podcast and the webpage has allowed me to learn sound editing, blogging, website design and video editing.
I am passionate about health and wellbeing and this journey will allow me to develop and learn more about our profession and health matters in general. This gives me the chance to both enjoy this journey and spread the knowledge learned after discussing with experienced professionals within the field.

Another reason to start my social media journey was that information about health is not always easily understandable. Health professionals often get carried away and forget that within their audience will have people who do not understand all the medical terminologies and jargon. Sometimes it feels like a whole different language!
Therefore I am aiming to bridge that gap between these two worlds and make health conversations simple for everyone. I believe that with the right tools and support, you can make informed decisions and I hope that the sources and information provided will allow everyone to make better and smarter health choices.
Regarding the podcast, we are going to have discussions with professionals and experienced people in their fields such as doctors, physiotherapists, nutritionists, psychologists and many more. These conversations will include basic health topics and also some more controversial issues in health/wellness and healthcare. You can expect to get 1-2 guest interviews every month and a few monthly shorter episodes that will focus on answering health and wellness related questions made by the public.

I hope that anyone who listens to a podcast or read a blog post will learn something new and useful for their health.
